HOW IT OPERATES

HouseMate is a unified hardware and app platform designed to facilitate complete control over an iOS device, which in turn can operate various other equipment using technologies such as InfraRed, HomeKit, and IFTTT. This system allows users to execute complex commands and automate routines through an intuitive interface.

HARDWARE OVERVIEW

The hardware component employs a built-in switch or can be connected to external switches or joysticks for operation. It features compatibility with R-Net and DX wheelchair control systems, expanding accessibility options. Power is supplied by a rechargeable Li-Ion battery. The device is equipped with a high-power omni-directional InfraRed transmitter alongside a Bluetooth radio module for seamless communication.

Functionally, the hardware transmits switch inputs to an iOS device, which, when configured with Switch Control, supports scanning-based control schemes. Through the HouseMate app's interface—presenting a grid of environmental controls—users can select commands that trigger HomeKit scenes or device actions. The hardware can also transmit pre-recorded InfraRed signals to control compatible devices.

An additional safety feature involves integrating a RF Nurse call pager, which can be activated independently via a prolonged switch press—functionality that remains unaffected if Bluetooth or the iOS device connection is lost. Furthermore, optional integration with EasyWave or Z-Wave wireless protocols is possible through internal transmitters.

HOUSEMATE APPLICATION

The HouseMate app is purpose-built for switch accessibility and can be freely downloaded from iTunes. Compatibility extends to any iOS device running version 8.4 or newer. The user interface features a grid of icons paired with descriptive text for each environment control function. Selecting an icon prompts either execution of a HomeKit scene/accessory or transmission of an InfraRed code via the hardware. Communication between the app and device occurs through Bluetooth Smart technology.

This consolidated app interface simplifies environmental management by eliminating the need for multiple applications—placing all controls within an accessible, visually-organized platform.
